Baraclude is a prescription medication that is used to treat chronic hepatitis B (HBV). Baraclude is an antiviral medication that contains entecavir. Entecavir works by preventing virus cells in your body from multiplying. Baraclude is not a cure for hepatitis.

Make sure to always read the patient information and instructions before using this medication. Always follow your doctor’s directions.

• Baraclude should be taken on an empty stomach. Take Baraclude 2 hours before or after eating.
• Your dose may be based on weight. Speak to your doctor if your weight changes as your dosage may need to be changed.
• Use Baraclude regularly for it to be most effective.
• You may need frequent blood or liver function tests while taking this medication and for several months afterward.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• About your drug and other allergies.
• If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications.
• If you have taken any other medications for hepatitis B in the past.
• Your medical history particularly of HIV or AIDS, kidney disease, liver transplant or liver problems.
• If you are pregnant or planning pregnancy.
• If you are breast-feeding.

You should also know:

• You may need to be tested for HIV before taking Baraclude.

Common side effects of Baraclude include but are not limited to:

• Headaches.
• Nausea.
• Dizziness.
• Tiredness.

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of entecavir.

• Signs of lactic acidosis including even mild symptoms of stomach pain, vomiting, feeling cold, unusual muscle pain, trouble breathing, fast or irregular heartbeats, dizziness, lightheadedness, tiredness or weakness.
• Signs of a severe liver problem including nausea, stomach pain, dark urine, loss of appetite, swelling around your midsection, jaundice or clay-colored stools.
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives or swelling in your face, lips or throat.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Baraclude?

If you miss a dose of Baraclude, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.
