Diflucan is an antifungal prescription medication that is used to treat a number of different conditions. Diflucan contains fluconazole and can be used to treat infections caused by a fungus, to prevent fungal infections in people with a weak immune system, and to treat a certain type of meningitis in people who have HIV or AIDS.

• Diflucan can be taken with or without food.
• Use fluconazole for the full length of time prescribed even if your symptoms have improved.
• Fluconazole is an antifungal medication and will not work to treat viral infections.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• About your drug and other allergies.
• If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications.
• Your medical history particularly of HIV or AIDS, cancer, heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease or heart rhythm disorder.
• If you or anyone in your family has long QT syndrome.
• If you are pregnant or planning pregnancy.
• If you are breast-feeding.

• Fluconazole may have negative interactions with many other medications. Make sure to tell your doctor all medications that you take and if you start to take any other medications.

Common side effects of Diflucan include but are not limited to:

• Headaches.
• Dizziness.
• Nausea.
• Stomach pain or upset stomach.
• Diarrhea.
• Changes to your sense of taste.

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of fluconazole.

• Fever or chills.
• Flu symptoms.
• Fast or pounding heartbeat or a fluttering in the chest.
• Shortness of breath.
• Sudden dizziness.
• Body aches.
• Dark urine.
• Clay-colored stools.
• Skin rash or skin lesions.
• Seizures.
• Jaundice.
• Loss of appetite.
• Upper right side stomach pain.
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives or swelling in your face, lips or throat.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Diflucan?

If you miss a dose of Diflucan, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.

What is the strength of Diflucan?

Both Diflucan and the generic alternative fluconazole are available in a strength of 150mg.
