Jalyn is a prescription medication that is used to treat BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) in men who have an enlarged prostate. Jalyn is a combination medication that contains dutasteride and tamsulosin. Dutasteride works by preventing testosterone from converting to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck.

Make sure to always read the patient information and instructions before using this medication. Always follow your doctor’s directions.

• Jalyn should be taken at the same time every day.
• Take Jalyn around 30 minutes after a meal.
• Swallow Jalyn capsules whole without chewing or crushing.
• You may need regular medical checks while taking this medication.
• Jalyn can take up to six months to improve your symptoms. Continue to take this medication regularly.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• About your drug and other allergies
• If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications
• Your medical history particularly of liver disease, prostate cancer, or high or low blood pressure

You should also know:

• Dutasteride can be absorbed through the skin. Jalyn should not be handled or taken by a woman or child. If a woman or child has contact with this medication, they should wash the area with soap and water immediately.
• You should not donate blood while taking Jalyn and for at least six months after you stop taking the medication.
• If you need cataract surgery, tell your surgeon beforehand that you take this medication.

Common side effects of Jalyn include but are not limited to:

• Depression
• Lowered libido
• A decrease in the amount of semen released during sex
• Problems getting or keeping an erection
• Dizziness
• Nipple discharge
• Breast enlargement or tenderness
• Runny nose

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of Jalyn:

• An erection that causes pain or lasts for more than four hours
• Lightheadedness
• Feeling like you might pass out
• Signs of a severe skin reaction including fever, skin pain, sore throat, burning eyes or a red or purple skin rash that peels or blisters
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives or swelling in your face, lips or throat

What should I do if I miss a dose of Jalyn?

If you miss a dose of Jalyn, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.

How long does it take Jalyn to reduce the symptoms of BPH?

It can take Jalyn up to six months to improve the symptoms of BPH.
