Mavik is a prescription medication that is used to treat high blood pressure and to decrease the risk of death following a heart attack. Mavik is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor medication containing trandolapril and works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood flows more easily.

Make sure to always read the patient information and instructions before using this medication. Always follow your doctor’s directions.

• Mavik can be taken with or without food.
• Continue using this medication even when you feel well. You may need to take blood pressure medications for the rest of your life.
• Your doctor may want to regularly check your blood pressure, kidney function and electrolytes while using this medication.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• About your drug and other allergies.
• If you take any other prescription or+36 over-the-counter medications, especially any medication that contains aliskiren or sacubitril.
• Your medical history particularly of diabetes, angioedema, liver disease, kidney disease, heart disease or congestive heart failure.
• If you are on dialysis.
• If you are on a low-salt diet.

You should also know:

• If you require surgery, you should tell your surgeon beforehand that you use this medication.
• Mavik should be used during pregnancy as it can cause injury or death to an unborn baby when taken during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. Speak to your doctor immediately if you become pregnant.
• Do not breast-feed while using this medication.

Common side effects of Mavik include but are not limited to:

• Dizziness.
• Cough.
• Diarrhea.

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of trandolapril.

• Chest pain or a fluttering in your chest.
• A pounding heartbeat.
• Feeling lightheaded or like you might pass out.
• Upper stomach pain.
• Jaundice.
• Signs of a kidney problem including shortness of breath, tiredness, swelling in the feet or ankles, or little or no urination.
• Signs of a lung problem such as severe shortness of breath, wheezing, gasping for breath, sweating, pale skin, coughing with foamy mucus, or anxiety.
• Signs of a high potassium level such as chest pain, irregular heartbeats, loss of movement, nausea, weakness, or a tingly feeling.
• Symptoms of a low white blood cell count including fever, coughing, chills, mouth sores, skin sores, sore throat, breathing problems, or lightheadedness.
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling in your face, lips, or throat.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Mavik?

If you miss a dose of Mavik, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.

What is the strength of Mavik?

Both Mavik and the generic alternative trandolapril are available in strengths of 0.5mg, 1mg, 2mg and 4mg.
