Sanctura is a prescription medication that is used to treat overactive bladder and the symptoms including incontinence, frequent urination, and urgent urination. Sanctura contains the antispasmodic drug trospium. Trospium works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder which helps you to control your urination.

Make sure to always read the patient information and instructions before using this medication. Always follow your doctor’s directions.

• Sanctura should be taken on an empty stomach, at least one hour before a meal.
• Swallow Sanctura whole without crushing or chewing.
• This medication is most effective when it is taken regularly. Try to take Sanctura at the same time every day.
• Speak to your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.
• Do not drink alcohol within two hours before or after taking Sanctura.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• About your drug and other allergies.
• If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications.
• Your medical history particularly of glaucoma, kidney disease, liver disease, a blockage in your digestive stomach, ulcerative colitis, stomach disorders, intestinal disorders, muscle disorders, enlarged prostate, myasthenia gravis or if you are unable to urinate.

• This medication can cause blurred vision. Do not drive or operate machinery until you can do so safely.
• Sanctura can decrease sweating and make it easier to become dehydrated. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication.

Common side effects of Sanctura include but are not limited to:

• Headaches.
• Dizziness.
• Mild constipation.
• Drowsiness.
• Dry mouth or throat.
• Upset stomach or gas.
• Dry eyes.

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of trospium.

• Confusion.
• Hallucinations.
• Urinating less than usual or not at all.
• Severe constipation.
• Severe stomach pain.
• Severe bloating.
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling in your face, lips, or throat.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Sanctura?

If you miss a dose of Sanctura, you should take it an hour before your next meal. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.
