Savaysa is a prescription medication that is used to treat blood clots and to reduce the risk of blood clots or stroke caused by atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE). Savaysa contains the anticoagulant edoxaban tosylate and works by blocking the actions of clotting proteins within your blood.

Make sure to always read the patient information and instructions before using this medication. Always follow your doctor’s directions.

• Savaysa can be taken with or without food.
• Savaysa tablets can be crushed and mixed into 3-6 ounces of water or applesauce if you are unable to swallow them whole. Swallow this mixture immediately and do not save it for later.
• Do not stop taking Savaysa without speaking to a doctor. Stopping this treatment suddenly may cause your condition to worsen.
• Take Savaysa at the same time every day.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• About your drug and other allergies
• If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications
• Your medical history particularly of heart valve problems, heart valve replacements, kidney disease, liver disease or if you have active bleeding
• If you are pregnant or planning pregnancy

You should also know:

• You should not breast-feed while taking this medication.
• Savaysa is an anticoagulant and may cause you to bleed more easily. Take care when using sharp objects and when brushing teeth.

Common side effects of Savaysa include but are not limited to:

• Easy bruising
• Minor bleeding

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of edoxaban.

• Signs of bleeding including bloody urine, red or tarry stools, bleeding from the gums, abnormal vaginal bleeding, coughing up blood, vomit that looks like coffee grounds or any form of persistent bleeding
• Bruises that don’t have an obvious cause
• Severe headache
• Pale skin
• Tiredness or weakness
• Signs of a stroke including balance problems, speaking problems, blurred eyesight, weakness to one side of the body or drooping of the face
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling in your face, lips, or throat

What should I do if I miss a dose of Savaysa?

If you miss a dose of Savaysa, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.

Savaysa is also known as Lixiana internationally. Lixiana is the same brand name medication with a different name internationally and is not a generic alternative medication.
